You should use a firm and authoritative voice but don't yell or you might make the situation worse, because your dog might look at your yelling as barking. Show your dog that you like him more when he's quiet.

Reward Your Dog For Not Barking: When your dog stops barking reward your dog with a treat or praise him. You must teach your dog when he stops barking good things will follow. This step is known as positive motivation and it is an effective technique.

Reinforce The Behavior You Like: You have to be consistent in reinforcing the behaviors you want to see in your dog. Some dog owners allow the excessive barking to become a big problem before they try to solve the problem. Before this problem gets out of hand you should address it.
